Beshtar
Beshtar is the Dari word for 'more'. We aim to be more than a design brand – it is a philosophy based on the assumption that more should and can be done for Afghanistan. Afghan craftsmen and women are involved in the sourcing and making of all the items Beshtar produces and sells. The proceeds from the sales of all items are distributed to charities throughout Afghanistan which have been established to help the Afghan people do more for themselves.
The Beshtar brand currently encompasses clothes and some home products sourced in Afghanistan. Though the fabrics and other products are traditionally hand-crafted, the designs are contemporary and a modern interpretation of the traditional – a fusion of the East and West.
All the textiles and raw materials are made by craftsmen and women in Afghanistan working to support themselves and keep their crafts alive.
Our program for the future is to work towards eventually establishing an atelier as a 'school of excellence' in Afghanistan to train artisans and ensure certain traditional crafts are not forgotten and new, compatible methods can be introduced.
We believe that if Afghans are able to realize their potential and help themselves they can transform their communities as well as their lives.
