The Beshtar story
The potential of the Beshtar brand is interlinked with the story behind the clothes and products. What we currently see and hear unfolding in Afghanistan is often negative. The positive, life-affirming stories seem to be few and far between. We want this to change. The international community as well as the Afghan diaspora want and need Afghanistan to succeed. We at Beshtar feel that Afghans can help themselves by highlighting the beauty of the country through its products. Afghanistan has a wealth of natural resources as well as natural talent found in its own people. The intention is that through initial word of mouth, people both nationally and internationally will begin to realize that this is not only a good cause but good business.
Afghanistan is an intrinsic part of my life because of my husband's family history and personal work there. Living and working in Kabul opens ones eyes to not only the difficulties but the possibilities. We believe that a peaceful and economically and politically stable Afghanistan is possible.
Beshtar is a business that will benefit Afghans directly through the use of their own skills and the materials found and made in the country. The majority of the profits are plowed back into the country through Afghan charities to help us achieve some of the work which we feel is currently not being addressed in the country. A Western approach to the business combined with an Eastern background and influences will help to sustain this business in a world heading more and more towards convergence of the East and West.
